Salvation Army Homes is delighted to announce that it has signed up to the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge, by HouseProud and Stonewall Housing. By signing up to the pledge Salvation Army Homes is showing residents that we are committed to building communities where people can thrive and know they are valued and respected as they are.

The pledge scheme was developed in response to the publication of the ‘No place like home’ study undertaken by the University of Surrey, to understand the experiences, concerns and preferences of LGBTQ+ social housing residents. Lynne Shea Salvation Army Homes Chief Executive said:

“We are thrilled to be part of this scheme that shows our commitment to residents so that they can feel welcome and safe in their homes, but that we will continue to develop how everyone can have a greater say in how Salvation Army Homes  develops its services”.

By signing up to the pledge it will show Salvation Army Homes's commitment to:

  • Ensuring that LGBTQ+ residents can have an input at executive and strategic levels.
  • Increasing LGBTQ+ visibility across Salvation Army Homes.
  • And providing a programme of staff training that will improve understanding of LGBTQ+ lives.

We’re excited to work towards the Pledge Pioneer accreditation. Over the coming months, Salvation Army Homes will work towards demonstrating our commitment to the pledge and sharing information with you on how we are meeting the commitment.

We encourage resident feedback to support this journey, we are particularly keen to hear from LGBTQ+ customers willing to work with us on delivering this commitment. If this is something that you would be interested in, please get in touch at haveyoursay@saha.org.uk
